KARACHI: Annoyed by the issuance of Hearing Notices issued in a matter which stoods settled by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, an appellate bench of High Court of Sindh, ordered Mr Ali Hasan, Deputy Commissioner IR, LTO, Karachi to appear before the bench on May 08 along with his explanation as to how hearing notices were issued. The bench also ordered maintenance of Status Quo till next date of hearing.

Earlier the bench heard Ali Almani advocate, counsel appearing in four identical petitions CP-D 1822 to 1825 of 2024 challenging Hearing Notices dated 28.3.2024 in respect of earlier Show Cause Notices dated 09.03.2018 issued to Friesland Campina Engro Pakistan for recovery of alleged short payment of Sales Tax on two products namely “Tarang” and “Omung”. The matter went upto apex court which dismissed the Civil Petitions filed by the department but as per petitioner’s counsel, IR authorities taking advantage of some observations made by the Supreme Court again referred the matter to the Classification Committee.

The bench after hearing the counsel for petitioner called explanation from the  DC IR, LTO.
