KARACHI: Collector Enforcement Karachi Basit Abbasi has ordered the formation of special mobile squads to conduct anti-smuggling operations round the clock. Additional Collector Amanullah Tareen has assigned two squads, Squad-1 and Squad-2, to be ready at Customs House. A source said that this is a unique opportunity for Customs to act against smuggling without any interference.

The anti-smuggling campaign is being carried out under the guidance of COAS Asim Munir, who has ensured that Customs faces no pressure from any political quarters, and has the support of all security and enforcement agencies.

Intelligence sources revealed that Pakistan had been relying heavily on foreign aid for various reasons. However, COAS Asim Munir has taken a strong stand against smuggling, money laundering, human smuggling and other illegal activities.

Authorities have initiated a crackdown on black money. A source also said that import restrictions will remain in place to enable the country to achieve self-reliance.
