QUETTA: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta has made several cases of smuggling in the past week, following the directions of the Director General, I&I, Islamabad Faiz Ahmed.
On the directives of Director Nadeem Memon I&I Quetta has tightened the intelligence network, and movement of smuggled goods has almost stopped.
Customs officials seized various items concealed in secret compartments in a passenger bus near Airport Chowk on September 15. The items included 300,000 sticks of Pine cigarettes, 20 bags of China Salt, 25 bags of plastic parcels and the offending vehicle. The total value of the seized goods and vehicle was estimated at 21.375 million rupees.
On September 16, the customs officials seized two non-duty paid vehicles in different operations in collaboration with Kalat Scouts and FC. The vehicles were a Toyota Land Cruiser ZX 2017 model and a Toyota Aqua model 2012, valued at 60 million rupees and 3 million rupees respectively.
On September 23, the customs officials seized another passenger bus near Airport Chowk with smuggled items hidden in secret compartments. The items included 30,000 sticks of Pine cigarettes, 180 parcels of foreign origin shopping bags, 32,000 pieces of foreign origin Health Flon I.V Cannula, 300 packets of foreign origin cat food ME-O, miscellaneous edible items and the offending vehicle. The total value of the seized goods and vehicle was estimated at 24.775 million rupees.
The total value of all the cases made by the customs intelligence in the past week was 109.15 million rupees. Further proceedings in the case have been initiated in accordance with law.
