KARACHI: A divisional bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Friday issued notices to the Pakistan Custom and other respondents in a petition filed by Advance Telecom.

The counsel for the petitioner submitted at the outset of hearing that matter pertains to the levy of Sales Tax at import stage. He submitted that two consignments have landed at the airport’s airfreight unit while three more are expected to arrive shortly.

The counsel submitted that mobile phone imported has front and rear camera of 8 and 2 megapixel and Custom authorities while combining the two treating them as of 10 mega pixel and levy tax on the very basis.

Kashif Nazir, counsel for Pakistan Customs said that mobile phones imported falls into category of Android phones and are being  assessed and charged as such.

He however candidly conceded that there is no dispute in respect of customs duty.

The bench after initial hearing ordered issuance of notices to the respondents for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.
