KARACHI: The Collector Customs Adjudication Chaudry Muhammad Jawaid has penalized the importer and clearing agent for importing and clearing DC inverter type split air conditioners through mis-declaration of description to avoid higher applicable values.
The Collector Adjudication ordered confiscation of the imported goods, however the importer M/s Humak Engineering, Islamabad was given an option to pay redemption fine at the rate of 35 percent of the value of goods along with applicable duty and taxes to get his goods released, while the clearing agent M/s Freight Ship Services Karachi was imposed a penalty of Rs0.3 million.
The importer M/s Humak Engineering, Islamabad imported consignments declared to be wall mounted split type air conditioners outdoor unit valuing Rs25.474 million and sought clearance through their agents M/s Freight Services Karachi, while the goods were found to be outdoor units of DC Inverter type split air conditioners valuing Rs34.383 million.
The importer and clearing agent attempted to evade legitimate government revenue of Rs5.842 million.
After due deliberation of the case, Collector Chaudry Muhammad Jawaid ordered confiscation of the goods, however importer M/s Humak Engineering, Islamabad was given an option to redeem the goods after payment of fine 35 percent of value of goods along with applicable duty/taxes and surcharge.
The clearing agent for failing to file correct goods declaration was imposed a fine of Rs0.3 million.
