KARACHI: Am appellate bench of High Court of Sindh comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial on Wednesday ordered release of consignment of wash basins.

The bench heard Hyder Shaikh advocate representing petitioner S. Abdullah who imported wash basin of Rooca company. The petitioner filed Goods Declaration and per valuation, the duty comes to Euro 13 but the Clearing Collectorate West imposed custom duty and other levies at a rate of Euro 30.

The counsel for petitioner seeking release of the goods maintained that Collectorate West acted beyond jurisdiction as only Valuation department can determine the value of imported goods after resorting to section 25 of the Customs Act 1969. The respondents cannot go beyond data.

The bench after hearing the sides ordered release of the consignment at declared value.
