KARACHI: The Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) and other respondents including Pakistan Customs were asked to get the issue of concession to importers of LED lights settled before the next date of hearing fixed to be Sept 28.

The order was passed by a Customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial here Wednesday during hearing of identical petitions filed by Mehran Industries, Star Brothers, S.S. Corporation and others who have imported consignments of LED light and claimed concession as LED lights are not manufactured in the country.

Hyder Shaikh advocate appearing for the petitioners referred to an order passed by SHC releasing consignments of LED lights which landed at the ports of Pakistan by August 2017. He contended that consignments that arrived and are due to arrive shortly may also be given the equal treatment i.e concession.

The counsel for respondents and AEDB submitted that request for extending the concession is lying with the ministry concerned and a decision is awaited.

The bench after this statement put of hearing till Sept 28 directing the respondents to get the issue settled before next date of hearing.
