KARACHI: Collector of Customs Enforcement Karachi, Mr. Moin-Ud-din Ahmad Wani, has spearheaded another significant operation in the fight against smuggling. Under his leadership, a dedicated team was constituted, led by Additional Collector Mr. Baasit Hussain and Assistant Collector, Marine Section, Shahzad Ali, to tackle the menace of diesel smuggling in Pakistan’s territorial waters.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (Marine Section), Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi intercepted three wooden launches carrying smuggled diesel oil. In the first operation, the launch Al-Sadaf (Registration No. BFD-20100-B) was found carrying 11,080 liters of diesel. In second operation, the launch Safina Al-Rehman-I (Registration No. BFD-14891) was seized with 15,090 liters of diesel onboard. In another operation, the Lauch “Al-Sheran” (Registration No. BFD-13200) was seized with 12,913 liters of diesel oil. The total value of the seized goods, (including duties and taxes), is estimated at Rs. 39.11 million.
The intercepted launches and diesel oil were taken into custody under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969, and legal notices were issued under Section 171. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in this smuggling network.
