KARACHI: The federal government has appointed Secretary Power Rashid Mahmood Langrial as the new Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Chairman FBR Amjad Zubair Tiwana had sought early retirement. Severe resentment had developed against Tiwana within FBR because of his policies targeting senior officers and inability to deliver.
Rashid Mahmood is from Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS).
His appointment comes a surprise since Rashid Mahmood has no experience of taxation and Customs.
An official said Mahmood would also remain a dummy Chairman, and the decision would come from somewhere else.
Member Customs Ashad Jawwad has applied for a six month leave. Jawwad is a well reputed and competent officer.
Sources said Chief Collector Baluchistan Yaqoob Mako will be appointed Member Customs – Operations.
