ISLAMABAD: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) ordered Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue, Lahore to make a detailed inquiry into allegation of Sales Tax Fraud by Millat Tractors Limited (MTL).

The Director General Anti Benjamin Initiative FBR was also directed probe Benjamin transactions involving 82 dealers of the MTL. A similar action was ordered against other leading tractor manufacturing units.

The orders came on a complaint filed by Nnabi Bux Sathio, Senior Vice president, Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Tando Muhammad Khan. As per complaint the MTL in connivance with field formations of FBR, MTL managed refund of Sales Tax worth rupees 14.885 billion.

The flying invoices, Benami transactions and abuse of process of booking where in stead of growers and farmers, commercial dealers were benefitted. The other allegations include sale of tractors to black listed or suspended tax payers.

The FTO referring to orders in complaints of Identical nature passed recently, ordered detailed probe against MTL as well as other tractor manufacturers.
