KARACHI: I&I Karachi has detected revenue evasion of duty and taxes worth Rs5.46 million on import of paper and paper waste.

Detailed scrutiny of past clearance under PCT Heading 48.02 has revealed that a total of 49 GDs from June 2021 to date were wrongly assessed under PCT Headings 4802.5890, 4802.5700 and 4802.5590 as per the declared description, whereas, the same were rightly classifiable under PCT Heading 4802.6200/4802.6990 attracting RD of 10%.

The incidence of differential amount of duty / taxes involved in such GDs is Rs5.46 million, which is recoverable from the importers, M/s Saad Impex.

An official said Director Karachi Saqif Saeed is a very competent and honest officers and posted very able officers on sensitive positions such as Additional Directors Ghulam Nabi Kamboh (Appraisement) and Additional Collector Umar Shafique (ASO). Moreover, I&I Karachi had developed a very efficient team comprising Deputy Director Amjad Rajper, Deputy Director Nausheen Riaz and Deputy Director Tauseef Gorchani.

Almost all the organized scams have been eliminated, and the leakages are now being targeted.

I&I Karachi team as well as Collector Port Qasim Ashhad Jawwad, first time in the history, eliminated revenue leakage by 95 per cent. Collector Ashad Jawad is a very honest and competent officer as well his team comprising Additional Collectors Javed Sarwar Sheikh, Ali Zaman Gardezi, Haris Ansari; Deputy Collector Wasif Malik and others.

Port Qasim was a lucrative collectorate for officers and officials, but now there is almost no corruption.

An official said organized smuggling was still going on in Gwadar (Irani diesel and Irani cooking oil), Islamabad Dry Port (Scrap, auto parts) and Multan.
