KARACHI: MCC Enforcement Karachi has seized large quantity of foreign origin smuggled edible oil, which wa being transported to Karachi via Super Highway.
Information was received through Collector Feroz Alam Hunejo to Additional Collector Honnak Baloch o the effect that an oil tanker carrying smuggled edible oil was plying on super highway in an attempt to smuggle edible oil to the other parts of the country.
Acting upon this information, Deputy Collector Inamullah Wazir constituted a team led by Preventive Officer M. Asfandyar to intercept the said oil tanker.
Customs team reached at the identified area and found the said oil tanker was moving on the Karachi toll plaza super highway, Karachi, which was signaled to stop.
The occupant of the vehicle introduced himself as Muhammad Irfan Khan. He was then enquired about the load in the tanker over which he couldn’t give a plausible answer.
As there existed discreet information about the smuggled foreign origin goods loaded in the said vehicle, therefore, the oil tanker was taken to Custom Choke point Super highway Karachi and the cursory search of the vehicle was carried out.
The checking led to recovery of foreign origin edible oil, the occupant of the vehicle could not provide any documentary evidence regarding legal import and possession of the goods.
The tanker worth Rs3.5 million and 28,000 liters of edible oil worth Rs8.4 million have been seized. An fir is lodged an investigations are underway.
Earlier, MCC Enforcement Karachi recovered 109kg charas/hashish worth Rs16.35 million from a Toyota Corolla vehicle at Customs Choke Point at Super Highway, Karachi.
