KARACHI: Customs Intelligence & Investigation Karachi (I&I Karachi) has recovered large quantity of mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches from vehicles of TCS Courier Company.
Information was passed through Director I&I Karachi Khalil Yousafani to Additional Director Rana Tasleem regarding movement of smuggled goods in TCS Courier vehicles.
Deputy Director Amjad Rajper formed a team headed by Superintendent ASO Saeed Farooqui to catch the culprits.
Subsequently, vehicles of TCS Courier were intercepted at Saddar, near Star City Mall, Karachi. On search of the said vehicles, huge quantity of assorted smuggled electronic items i.e. Iphones including Iphone 13 Pro Max, cellular smartphones, tablets, USBs, memory cards and smartwatches etc. worth Rs.30 million were recovered.
TCS is also given notice to explain their position in transportation of smuggled goods. Further investigation to apprehend the real culprits and smugglers is underway. An FIR is likely to be lodged on Thursday.
An official said this was not the first instance as courier companies had earlier been found involved in smuggling of goods such as mobile phones and laptops etc., while international courier companies were found involved in smuggling of narcotics.
