KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbsi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Tuesday disposed off six petitions filed by importers of steel products along with applications including contempt of court.
The court heard a battery of lawyers appearing for the petitioners including Zain Jatoi, Ahmed Ali Hussain and others while Syed Mehmood Alam Rizvi, Khalid Rajpar, Masooda Siraj and others appearing for the respondent custom collectorates and custom officials including DIT’s Dost Muhammad who claims to have detected the huge scam worth billions of rupees and involving hundreds of consignments.
The bench today after a detailed hearing while disposing of the petitions ordered the customs collectorate concerned and Dost Muhammad, complainant in the cases to appear before the customs adjudicating authority where both sides were free to plead their case. The adjudicating authority was ordered to decide the matters in a month’s time.
The counsel for petitioners sought a restraining order against registration of FIRs. The court declined the request observing that new FIRs can be challenged appropriately.
