KARACHI: The hearing of a petition filed by Steel Vision, importer of steel items was adjourned till July 15 by a customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan.

The bench perused a compliance report by the DIT officer Dost Muhammad who made a request for examination of the goods. The petitioners objected maintaining that as a hold has been in place, the matter could not proceed further. The petitioner however said that for the time being the contention of the respondent department be accepted. The petitioner side also prayed that Deputy Collector Customs MCC Exports, Port Muhammad Bin Qasim as well as Imports, Port Qasim may be directed to process the GD filed by the petitioner in accordance with law after joint examination of the goods.

The bench allowed the requests from both sides and ordered the respondents to do the needful within a week and to file a compliance report. The bench also restrained the respondents from taking any co-ercive action be taken against the petitioners.

In the meanwhile, if the occasion of issuance of Delay Detention Certificate arises such request of the petitioners be considered in accordance with law.

The case pertains to abuse of KEPZ facilities and according to the respondent department more than 300 consignments are under scrutiny.
