KARACHI: MCC Appraisement West has foiled a bid of revenue evasion, which the importer attempted by misuse of transshipment of cargo facility.[the_ad id=”32940″]Acting upon a credible information received by Collector of Customs MCC Appraisement (West) Karachi Wajid Ali, Deputy Collector Asim Awan of R&D branch of MCC West intercepted a transshipment container at KICT imported from UAE declared to contain old and used auto parts destined for Lahore.

The TP declaration was in the name of M/s. Al-Jeeran Engineering Lahore and bonded carrier M/s. Saif-ur-Rehman Co.

Detailed examination of the container was carried out by the R&D under the supervision of Principal Appraiser Abdul Qayyum and Appraiser Ghani Soomro  resulted in recovery of high dutiable and restricted items including Mobile Phones, Tablets PCs, Satellite Dish Receivers, CCTV Cameras, Copper Refrigeration Tube, Ball Bearings, Circuit Breakers, Finger Print Scanners, Dialysis Machines etc.

The approximate evaded amount of duties and taxes comes to the tune of Rs60 million. FIR has been lodged. Further legal proceedings in the case are underway.

It may be mentioned here that certain elements are involved in cargo replacement of transshipment consignments. These importers declare the goods under vague descriptions and file TP for various dry ports. The high value and high tariff goods are then replaced during the transit with the connivance of bonded carriers

Collector Wajid Ali has reactivated the R&D section of MCC Appraisement West, and he is personally monitoring the activities of R&D.

Collector Wajid Ali is enforcing tighter controls on revenue evasion particularly through under invoicing and mis-declaration. He has directed the staff to be vigilant and keep watch so as to avoid misuse of green channel facility.
