KARACHI: MCC Appraisement East has detected evasion of Rs47.46 million, which certain diaper importers committed by availing inadmissible benefit under SRO 1125(I)/2011.

MCC Appraisement East has so far recovered Rs7.39 million and initiated the procedure for the recovery of the rest.

According to details of the case, a list of manufacturers of diapers who had availed inadmissible benefit of SRO 1125(I)/2011 was received from the office of Chief Collector South Abdul Rasheed Shaikh with the direction to recover legitimate government revenue from the concerned importers.

Collector Arshad Jawad assigned Deputy Collector Javed Sarwar Shaikh, Principal Appraiser Shafiullah and Appraising Officer Abdul Qadeer to pursue the case.

Four importers namely M/s Ontex Pakistan PVT Ltd, M/s Lorenzo Industries, M/s Dean Industries and M/s Gillani Hygienic were identified from MCC Appraisement East whereby inadmissible benefit of concessionary SRO was availed.

The importers were contacted through their clearing agents and in response M/s Ontex Pakistan paid short levied amount of Rs2.39 million. Similarly M/s Lorenzo Industries made partial payment of Rs5.0 million out of recoverable Rs27.36 million and agreed to pay the rest in monthly installments.

However, M/s Deans Industries and M/s Gillani Hygienic Products have not responded and the Collectorate initiated procedure to recover Rs12.7 million from M/s Deans Industries and Rs5.0 million from M/s Gillani Hygienic Products.
