KARACHI: The Customs Valuation was directed to file comments in a suit filed by Volka Food Industries Multan seeking re-export of the claimed state of the art machinery for confectionery plant.

 The Collector Customs, East, Export , chairman FBR and  PICT are defendants  in the suit.

According to details of the case available with Customnews.pk, the petitioner company which is in the business of manufacturing  biscuits, chocolates, bubble gums and candies under the brand name “Giggly”  imported machinery from Germany, for expanding their production line. The Pakistan Customs which previously released their consignment against custom duty and taxes at a rate of US $ 2.70 per kilogram but now are demanding custom duty and taxes at a rate of US $ 30 per kilogram, which according to plaintiff is unreasonable, arbitrary and unworkable.

A demand of rupees 60,555,092 was raised by the customs at which the petitioner sought permission to re-export the said consignment to its customer in UAE.

The bench today after hearing Khawaja Shamsul-Islam advocate for plaintiff and Masooda Siraj, Zafar Hussain Mirza advocate for Customs Valuation while seeking comments in detail put of further hearing to a date to be specified later by the office of the court.
