KARACHI: Shahid Khaliq, Proprietor of S.K Packages was admitted to bail against a personal bond of rupees 100,000 here on Wednesday in a case of alleged benefits from fake Sales tax Invoices.

Earlier, counsel for applicant who is cited as an accused being a beneficiary, submitted that his client was failing Sales Tax invoices as Nil since 2010. It is duly registered and a taxpayer being a service provider to the government departments.

The petitioner has no nexus with the alleged crime and FIR 01/2014 in which his name appears at serial no 20 of the list of the beneficiaries, counsel for applicant/accused submitted. She said that petitioner was never called or served with any notice and the Sales tax officials are harassing him. Any proceedings can be initiated against the applicant after providing him an opportunity under section 11, 25, and 36 of the Sales tax Act 1990; she submitted praying to the court to restrain the authorities from arresting the applicant and to direct them to delete his name from the list of the accused as mention in the supplementary charge sheet.

As the applicant/accused was not present before the bench, the bench granting bail made it conditional to the appearance of the applicant before Nazir of the SHC. The Nazir was direct to accept personal bond of the applicant after proper identification.
