KARACHI:- The hearing of a constitution petition filed by Iqra University, Defense Campus was adjourned indefinitely as the counsel for petitioner sought time to file documents for establishing that goods imported are meant for “educational and research” purposes only.

The petitioner maintained that the university imported ‘Bus way System’ use exclusively by students and particularly research related projects and works.

The petitioner maintains that goods imported are exempted from custom duty and other taxes but the Custom officials have detained the same for no reason. The goods are imported from Turkey as the same are not produced/manufactured in Pakistan. The petitioner prays to the court to order Customs to apply PCT Heading 9915 and release the item under applicable tax exemption.

Today, the case came up for hearing before SHC bench comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar. The counsel for petitioner on an objection by the counsel for Pakistan Customs, Masooda Siraj Advocate sought some time to place the documents on record to prove that imported goods are of nature that could be used only for educational and research purposes.

The bench allowed the request and adjo0urned further proceedings to a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.
