KARACHI: Imtiaz Ahmed Khan, a senior most officer of Pakistan Customs service was appointed Director General, Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation­ FBR, Islamabad here on Saturday. FBR earlier considered three senior officials in all for the posting including M Saleem and Rozi Khan Burqi but decision was taken in favour of Imtiaz Khan purely on merit. He succeeded Lutfullmah Virk, who retired on October 20 after a three decade long meritorious service.

According to a notification issued by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued at Islamabad on Saturday, the appointment is with immediate effect. The issuance of notification was unusual as FBR remain close on Saturday but it was prompted by a necessity as chairman FBR is leaving for Duabi to attend a meeteing with IMF to be held on Monday, the next working day.

The newly appointed DG enjoys a good reputation as an honest and a strict administrator.

Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad Khan a (BS­21) officer serving as Director General, Directorate General of IPR, Lahore was asked to take charge immediatelty and confirm the same on line system.

His appointment would ensure the continuity of policy of effective anti smuggling drive actively persued by his predecessor Lutfullah Virk.
