KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) in Karachi has seized 1.25 kilograms of marijuana (cannabis) at the International Mail Office (IMO). Acting on credible information from Collector Adeem Khan and Additional Collector Muhammad Faisal, the customs team increased monitoring of EMS post parcels originating from Bangkok, Thailand, suspecting they might contain contraband or controlled substances.

During an intelligence-based operation, a suspicious parcel was intercepted. The parcel, booked from Bangkok by an individual named Thanuphoon, was declared as containing dried food and addressed to a resident of Karachi. Upon examination in the presence of customs and IMO staff, the parcel was found to contain 1.25 kilograms of raw marijuana, worth approximately Rs. 5 million. An on-spot test confirmed the substance as marijuana.

This seizure is a result of heightened monitoring of EMS post parcels from Bangkok at the IMO. An FIR is being lodged to trace the financiers, abettors, facilitators, and the actual narcotics gang involved. The investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible, with efforts focused on tracing and arresting both the sender and the recipient, as well as determining the extent of the narcotics network.

This successful operation highlights Pakistan Customs’ ongoing efforts at JIAP to combat international narcotics trafficking.
