KHUZDAR: In a significant crackdown on smuggling activities, Customs Enforcement Khuzdar has seized a substantial quantity of smuggled betel nuts and lodged two FIRs. The operation was part of an intensified anti-smuggling campaign led by Collector Umar Shafique.

Under the strict directives of Collector Shafique, a vigilant team was formed by the Deputy Collector Taha Salman, supervised by the Incharge of Customs Check Post Khurkhera Inspector Shahzad. On October 7, 2024, the team signaled a Hino truck traveling from Quetta to Karachi to stop for inspection. Upon thorough examination, the customs staff discovered 2,460 kilograms of smuggled betel nuts concealed within wooden apple crates. The contraband goods and the vehicle were promptly seized.

In a separate incident on the same day, another Hino truck coming from Quetta was stopped and inspected. This search revealed 2,015 kilograms of smuggled betel nuts hidden under layers of local wood. The customs staff seized the contraband goods and the vehicle.

Both drivers were arrested, and two FIRs have been lodged. Investigations are currently underway to uncover further details about the smuggling operations.
