KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi has lodged an FIR against several persons including a woman for mis-declaration of value/under-invoicing by submitting fake and forged documents and filing of GD without EIF declaring lower values and claiming inadmissible exemptions.
Information was passed through Director I&I Karachi Habib Ahmad to Additional Director Afzaal Ahmad Wattoo that the importer, M/s. Junisco, is involved in under invoicing of “Networking equipment” and subsequently circumvention of ElF by submitting fake and forged documents declaring low value of imported goods and resultantly evading payable duty/taxes fraudulently.
In this regard, the informant also provided online internet value for some of the items, which upon scrutiny revealed that declared value is significantly lower than the online value of the same item.
On the directives of Deputy Director Raissa Kanwal, Appraising Officer Tauseef Ahmad kept strict vigilance on import of “Networking Equipment” imported by M/s. Junisco.
The importer filed two GDs declared to containEX3400 48-PORT Ethernet Switch Product # EX3400-48P, MPC, 2XMIC Module Part Number: SR X5K-IYIPC Juniper Networking Equipment & JNPKIOK Router Module Part #: JNPIOK-RE.
The perusal of imported goods revealed that value has been grossly undervalued as compared to market/web-based value.
Two persons are arrested namely Ghulam Sabir Ghauri and Zeeshan Ahmed, who were looking after the imports. The owner of the importer firm is known to be operating this scam from Canada. During investigation, actual invoices of higher values were also recovered from possession of Sabir Ghauri and Zeeshan.
Furthermore, the investigation found that all the GDs filed on self basis were filed from IP address of clearing agent M/s Athar & Co and deliveries were also obtained by them from AFU. The involvement of assessment staff is also being evaluated.
FIR is lodged against Ms. Shamim Akhtar Alam of M/s Junisco, Muhammad Saeed Alam, Ghulam Sabir Ghauri, Zeeshan Ahmed, Syed Masood Ali, Syed Athar Ali, Syed Amjad Ali and others.
This is first FIR since many years by the Directorate in consignments pertaining to AFU.
Director I&I has appointed high profile officer Principal Appraiser Ilyas Ghichki as the IO of the case.
