KARACHI: A Customs’ appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice OmarSial on Thursday allowed release of miscellaneous goods confiscated by Sukkur Customs on payment of redemption fine at a rate of 20 per cent with the Nazir of the Court.

The bench was hearing a Special Customs Reference Application filed by the department against order in appeal passed by Special Customs Appellate Tribunal, Karachi in favour of appellant/ respondent Mehboob, owner of Al-Aziz Goods Transport Company.

The counsel for department / appellant maintained that appellate court allowed release of the smuggled goods worth million against a meager fine of rupees 50,000. The counsel said that goods could have been released on payment of fine at a rate of 20 per cent minimum.

Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen appearing for the respondent agreed to the payment of 20 per cent redemption fine but with Nazir of the court as interim arrangement.

The bench allowed the request and ordered applicant collectorate to release the goods on payment of redemption fine.
