KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has redistributed intelligence and investigation work within the province of Sindh and created Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Hyderabad vide Customs General Order (CG) No.05 of 2017.
According to the CGO, Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Karachi will do anti-evasion work and monitoring of Customs clearances and other related matters in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate (Appraisement-West), Karachi, Model Customs Collectorate (Appraisement-East), Karachi, Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive), Karachi, Model Customs Collectorate (Port Qasim), Karachi, Model Customs Collectorate (Exports), Custom House, Karachi, and Model Customs Collectorate (Exports), Port Qasim, Karachi. Moreover, it will do anti-smuggling and preventive related work in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive, Karachi and Model Customs Collectorate Port Qasim, Karachi.
Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation, Hyderabad will do anti-evasion work and monitoring of Customs clearances and other related matters in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad along with anti-smuggling and preventive related work in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate Hyderabad.
Smuggling in the country has risen to an alarming level as most of the officials of anti-smuggling organization (ASO), contrary to their responsibility, are helping the culprits. These officials who are posted in ASO for decades have developed their links within the markets and with smugglers. Now, they are business partners of the smugglers.
These ASO officials uses various tactics to transport smuggled goods from Quetta to Karachi and other cities.
There is a dire need that these officials are replaced with honest and reputed officials such as Najeebullah Jafri, Saud, Fakhar Shah and Mohammad Sadiq.
Similarly, officials at Customs appraisement may be utilized for anti-smuggling work such as Shahid Rizvi, Hamood-ur-Rehman, Amir Shah, Shahid Ibrahim Dasti, Anwer Zeb, Malak Hashim, Javed Khalid and Azhar Abbas.
Posting of honest and competent officials in anti-smuggling organization will discourage influx of smuggled goods such as Irani diesel, mobile phones, auto parts, cigarettes, gutka etc.
