KARACHI: Customs Anti Smuggling Organization Sukkur has seized 63 kg of wet opium valuing Rs131.67 million, which was being transported to Karachi via Larkana.
Information was received from Chief Collector Manzoor Memon that an attempt would be made to smuggle the foreign origin opium towards Karachi via Larkana. Assistant Collector Mumtaz Ali formed a team headed by Inspector Aziz Ahmed to keep strict vigilance upon the traffic enrooted to Larkana by-pass.
Customs staff intercepted a vehicle at Otha chowk. Preliminary search was made on the spot that found three bags of opium concealed under gypsum powder. Detailed search resulted into recovery of 53 packets weighing 63 kg of opium.
ASO Sukkur led by Assistant Collector Mumtaz Ali seized goods valuing Rs 155.36 millions during for the month of May 2017 as compared with seizures of Rs12.7 million in May 2016. The goods seized include cigarettes, opium, Gutka, fabric, electronics etc.
