KARACHI: The readymade garment importers have approached Director General Customs Valuation Syed Tanveer Ahmed praying revision in the values of low-end readymade garments determined vide Valuation Ruling No. 886/2016.

The importers have approached Director General praying that valuation ruling 886/2016 is hypothetical and undermining fair process of determination of normal import values.

Moreover, valid import data is not available to support the determined values while no representative of commercial importers was part of market survey.

The revision petition notes that the Directorate of Valuation Karachi just for fulfillment of formality invited importer association at the exercise for determination of values but sufficient opportunity of hearing was not provided, which is against the principles of natural justice.

It is submitted that while determining the values an important fact is totally ignored that garments of low-end brands comprise of different varieties and constituent material and specification and weight and sizes.

The importers noted in the revision petition that if the Valuation Ruling No.886/2016 is not revised, they would not be able to dispose of the goods in local market because the prices of same in local market are on lower side.
