KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Karachi has recovered 1,000 smuggled laptops from a shop at Central Plaza. The recovered goods are values at Rs50 million.

Information was passed through Director Saquif Saeed to Additional Directors Inamullah Wazir and Nausheen Riaz to the effect that huge quantity of smuggled and non-duty-paid goods were dumped at a warehouse, Shop No.70, 9th floor of Central Plaza for further distribution.

Staff of I&I Karachi obtained search warrant, and search of the premises resulted in recovery of huge quantity of foreign origin assorted laptops packed in cartons.

As neither anybody came forwarded to claim the ownership of the aforesaid placed / recovered foreign origin laptops, nor anyone produce any legal documents in support of lawful import / possession, therefore, all the aforesaid recovered foreign origin assorted laptops packed in cartons were taken into the custody. After passing the stipulated time period, neither anybody approached the office of Directorate General to claim the ownership of the aforesaid recovered / detained foreign origin laptops, nor anyone produce any relevant legal documents pertaining to the aforesaid detained laptops.

The goods were seized, an FIR is lodged and investigations are underway.
