QUETTA: In a single day Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Quetta, foiled three attempts of currency smuggling in huge amounts via Chaman Friendship Gate.
On the directives of Chief Collector Quetta Abdul Qadir Memon, Collector Enforcement Samiulhaq and Additional Collector Moin Afzal have expedited the efforts against smuggling, and cases on daily basis are being made.
Customs staff posted at Friendship Gate chaman in collaboration with Army unit AK 40 recovered an amount of Rs1.59 million being illegally transferred, by a Pakistani citizen travelling from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
Person has been arrested, FIR has been lodged and currency has been seized. On the same day two other joint operations were conducted. In one of the operations, the staff of the collectorate posted at chaman in collaboration with Army unit AK 40, posted at the FS gate recovered an amount US$103,400 being illegally transferred, by a Pakistani person travelling from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
Person has been arrested, FIR has been lodged and currency has been seized. In the other operation, a Pakistani citizen travelling from Afghanistan to Pakistan was carrying Rs2.015 million. The person has been arrested and seizure has been made. Rs1.49 million was seized from a passenger leaving for Afghanistan. The currency was seized and the person had been arrested.
Customs staff in collaboration with the Army staff posted at Chaman Friendship Gate recovered Rs14.277 million from a passenger leaving for Afghanistan. The currency was seized, passenger was arrested and FIR lodged.
The accused persons concealed the currency alongwith their body underneath their clothes and did not declare this currency with Customs staff and could not account for the possession of huge sum of currency, therefore, the aforementioned currency was seized under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969 and the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947. FIRs have been lodged against the accused persons. Further proceedings are underway and Board will be informed for further outcome in due course of time.
