ISLAMABAD: Customs staff at Islamabad Airport has foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign currency to Dubai via PIA flight and arrested one passenger.

Information was passed through Collector Islamabad Airport Hasan Saqib to Additional Collector Asim Rehman that attempt will be made to smuggle foreign currency abroad. Subsequently, Assistant Collector Farhad khan and Shift-In-charge Inspector Khalid Mehmud increased the vigilance.

Custom staff posted at departure hall at Islamabad International Airport successfully recovered and seized foreign currency equivalent to $30,730 from the concealed pocket/space of a hand baggage of a passenger on the PIA flight PK-233 destined for Dubai.

Seized currency include SAR 78,550; USD 7500; Euros 960; AED 5050. The passenger has been arrested and further investigations are underway.

Customs authorities have increased monitoring of outgoing passengers at all airports in the wake of foreign exchange scarcity in the country and resultant attempts of smuggling forex abroad.
