KARACHI: MCC Exports Karachi has submitted an interim-challan nominating Humair Qureshi s/o Munir Qureshi in the case of smuggling of Amphetamine (ICE).
Absconding accused Humair Qureshi is the son of former Member Customs Munir Qureshi. Munir Qureshi during his term as Chief Collector was also allegedly involved in Afghan Transit cargo replacement and pilferage.
In the investigation regarding Afghan Transit containers going and coming back from Quetta and Peshawar within one day, then Deputy Director Engineer Habib, reportedly on the instructions of Munir Qureshi, suppressed the investigations and gave clean chit to all involved.
According to details, M/s. Qtinity electronically filed a Goods Declaration destined to M/S Karadeniz SPS in Melbourne Australia consisting of two containers through their authorized Clearing Agent M/s Al Kasib, and declared the description of the goods as salt. The WeBOC system allowed loading under yellow channel on the basis of profile of the exporter. But keeping in view the risky nature of the goods i.e salt and destination i.e Australia, same was put for examination by AC examination of PICT. Accordingly, the containers were arranged for examination at PICT yard. This exercise led to recovery of 47 KG Crystal Amphetamine (ICE).
Customs officers were so under-pressure that it took three months for submitting the Interim-Challan from the date of filing FIR. The FIR did not include the name of Humair Qureshi.
However, Chief Collector Enforcement South Yaqoob Mako, Collector Farrukh Sajjad disciplined the prosecution and the prime accused Humair Qureshi was nominated in the Interim Challan.
Two more accused in this this case including Taha Hussain s/o of Customs Agents Association former President Wasiq Hussain and Fida Muhammad are under arrest.
