KARACHI: Transparency International (TI) has requested the Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen to examine the allegations against National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and if found these correct and Auditor General Pakistan’s report as genuine then to take action against those responsible for the loss of Rupees 135.88 Billion.
In a letter addressed to Finance Minister and released to the Press, TI says that violations of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Prudential Rules could be inquired into as these were committed prior to promulgation of NAB Amendment Ordinance 2021.
The letter names Prime Minister Imran Khan as one involved in illegal Appointment of Arif Usmani as President NBP and Zubyr Soomro while Presiding a Cabinet Meeting in the year 2019.
It is worth mentioning that NBP managed to stop its audit by AGP from 2012_-2020 by challenging it before High Court of Sindh.
