HYDERABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Sukkur Range has seized large quantity of Indian origin medicines, which had been smuggled into the country from Afghanistan.

Information was received through Director Sadiqullah Khan to Additional Director Jamshed Talpur regarding movement of smuggled goods from Jacobabad to Sukkur.

Subsequently, the ASO team intercepted a truck near Bypass Jacobabad. Checking of the vehicle led to recovery of smuggled foreign origin medicines. The driver of the vehicle could not provide a documentary evidence regarding legal import/possession of the goods.

An official said these goods were coming from Afghanistan. Large consignments of goods are imported by Afghan importers via Afghan Transit Trade ATT, and then these goods are either pilfered during the transit or smuggled back into the country.
