QUETTA: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta has seized 28 tons of smuggled betel nut, which was being transported in a bowser at Lakpas Check Post. The value of seized goods and transporting vehicle comes to Rs62 million.

Information was passed through Director Muhammad Ismail to Deputy director Amjad Rajpar that a huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled Betel Nut would be transported through Hino Trailer along with Bowser from Noshki to Quetta and down country.

A team was formed comprising Intelligence Officers Muhammad Shabbir Khan and Hamid Habib and others to foil the attempt of smuggling.

During the course of surveillance of road traffic the Staff of Directorate Intelligence & Investigation Quetta with the assistance of staff of FC 64 Wing Chiltan Rifles stopped the suspected vehicle at FC Check post Lakpass.

The driver of the vehile provided GD mentioning the bowser contained LPG cleared from Custom House Tartan.

Custom House Taftan confirmed on phone that both GDs are fake and forged one.

The vehicle and bowser were brought to Custom House Taftan and detailed examination led to recovery of smuggled betel nut.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta is very efficient and has foiled several attempts of smuggling goods through novel methods.

An official said examining an LPG bowser is very risky, but the Customs is staff is committed to its resolve.
