KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) adjourned hearing of a petition filed by Mengal Trading company which imported a consignment of fabric.

Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner filed GD which was processed and Gate Out was issued when Directorate of Intelligence & Investigations (I&I) placed a hold on the consignment. The consignment was re-examined and petitioner was told to submit pay order of more duty and taxes which was complied with. Again the DIT placed a hold and sought a third assessment which was challenged by the petitioner in the instant petition. In the peculiar facts of the case, now the consignment could be opened under section 32 of the Customs Act 1969, the counsel for petitioner submitted praying the court to restrain the DIT from interference and withdraw the hold placed.

The bench after initial hearing while issuing notices adjourned further proceedings for first week of April.
