KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) ordered that a responsible officer from Port Qasim Authority shall appear before the bench seized with the hearing of a property tax case.

Rupali Polyesters which obtained a piece of land on rent moved the court. The counsel for plaintiff submitted that the lease agreement was not being implemented by the PQA thus no property tax can be levied or recovered from the plaintiff.

Additional Advocate General Sindh Mr Saif represented the provincial government as its tax department has raised the recovery of property tax. To a query Mr Saif read out the relevant portion of law and said that tax is levied both on land as well as constructed area. The rate is different and determined as such, he added.

As no one from PQA was in attendance, the bench adjourned the hearing summoning a responsible officer from PQA on next date of hearing.
