KARACHI: A dispute regarding the nature of the imported steel items, subject matter of a petition filed by Messrs Raja Steel have been referred to the Steel Committee formed by Pakistan Customs here on Wednesday.

An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) earlier heard a counsel from Franklin Law Associates representing the petitioner side who maintained that the petitioner has a Mills Test Certificate (MTC) which confirms that the imported items are of primary nature and have been assessed as such but later concerned officials are treating the items as of secondary type and thus levying duty on higher side.

The assessment shall be made on the basis of sizes, color etc and the best available way is to refer the same to the Steel Committee, the petitioner’s counsel submitted.

The bench agreeing to the contention referred the matter to the Steel Committee formed by the respondent custom official.

The  bench later adjourned further hearing till Sept 04 while ordering in-bonding of the goods.
