QUETTA: A Customs Officer was severely injured by smugglers at Customs Check Posts Darakhsh while trying to foil an attempt of smuggling foreign origin goods into country.
Information was passed by Collector Customs Quetta Ashraf Ali to Preventive Section Additional Collector Zubair Shah, Deputy Collector Maqbool Baloch and Superintendent Niamat kakar regarding movement of smuggled goods.
Inspector Jameel Kakar in-charge of the said check post was alerted along with his staff to keep strict vigilance on every loaded bus and trucks. Subsequently, a Hino Truck coming from Quetta was spotted and stopped. However, several smugglers attacked the check post and Customs personnel. The unscrupulous elements were trying to snatch the said Hino Truck from Customs authorities.
During this clash Custom Officer Jameel Kaker received serious injuries. He was removed to hospital for treatment.
Smugglers and their associates blocked the main high way for at least 4 hours. Later on, Customs personnel with the support of FC and levies cleared the road and the truck was taken into custody by Custom authorities.
After unloading the truck foreign origin goods like Indian Pan Parag, Tyres, Betel nut, welding rods and miscellaneous goods worth Rs20 million were recovered.
Customs and Levies authorities lodged FIRs against unscrupulous elements namely Nabi Bakhsh Pirkani, Rasool Bakhsh Pirkani and Ali Bakhsh Pirkani. The offenders managed to escape from the scene.
