KARACHI: Customs SRDP Sost has seized large quantity of Chinese liquor and electronics imported in the garb of CPEC consignments worth Rs20 million.
In pursuance of a credible information received through Deputy Collector Customs, SRDP, Sost Asfandyar that an attempt would be made to smuggle a huge quantity of Chinese origin liquor by some unscrupulous elements in the garb of consignments pertaining to CPEC projects, examination of all such consignments was tightened.
During a routine visit in the port premises the Deputy Collector Customs observed that packing of six plywood bundles seemed suspicious. A team of officials Mr. Sardar Manzoor, Superintendent, Mr. Asifullah, Inspector and Mr. Amanullah, Inspector was therefore, immediately constituted to carry out detailed examination of the said consignment.
Upon detailed examination of the consignment it transpired that Chinese origin alcohol was concealed by the importer M/S Sheng Tong International Trading (Pvt) Ltd. Company, inside the plywood bundles.
A case is lodged against M/S Sheng Tong International Trading (Pvt) Ltd. Company, and further investigation is underway.
An official said Customs had no writ in Sost, Gilgit due extreme shortage of staff and resources. Recently, local importers and smugglers attacked NLC dryport.
