KARACHI: MCC Port Qasim has served a contravention report on M/s Boss Enterprises, Lahore for evading government revenue to the tune of Rs35.75 million through mis-declaration of description and PCT of the imported goods.
M/s. Boss Enterprises got cleared 27 consignments declared to contain assorted type toys. During course of post scrutiny of the goods declarations, it transpired that the importer had got cleared battery Operated Ride-on Cars, Battery Operated Ride-on Trikes, Manual Ride-on Push Cars, Manual Ride-on Push Trikes under wrong classification by mis-stating description thereof.
Above type of toys are correctly classifiable under PCT heading 9503.0010. The importer had done this in order to avoid application of Valuation Ruling No. 991/2016 and regulatory duty leviable at 15 percent.
Based on facts and record, it is clearly established that the importer M/s Boss Enterprises willfully and deliberately mis-declared and mis-classified the impugned goods to avoid application of valuation ruling and levy of regulatory duty. The Short Realized amount is worked out as Rs35.757 million.
Sources said M/s Boss Enterprises is a part of a mafia of toy traders involved in evading government’s legitimate revenue through various means. It was known that the said people had acquired over five WeBOC IDs and they are involved in mis-declaration and under-invoicing for the last four years.
It was also known that the accused were owned a media publication and had ties with a news channel also to build pressure and defame the Customs officers who came in their way.
The same group pressurized Additional Collector Yasin Murtaza through media and a defamation campaign was initiated against the officer known for honesty and competence.
The contravention report is submitted for further proceedings under the above provisions of law.
