KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising  Justice Munib Akhtar  and Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed on Tuesday issued notices to Director General Valuation and other official respondents of Pakistan Customs for January 13 in a two constitutional petitions.

The petitions were filed by Franklin Law Associates under guidance of CEO Faisal Ghani on law points for their clients Asian Brothers and Ittefaq General Store, importers of Soap from different sources around the world. The second petition was filed on behalf of M S Enterprises and Master Enterprises, importers of tooth brush.

Ghulam ullah Sheikh advocate appearing for the petitioners/importers pleaded that value of the imported goods were enhanced by the Director General Valuation in violation of section 25 of the Pakistan Customs Act 1969.

He prayed to the court to declare the order of the DG valuation as being illegal and beyond jurisdiction of the respondent DG Valuation.

The bench after hearing the counsel for petitioner ordered notices to the respondents for Jan 03.

Meanwhile hearing in dozens of cases was put off as the Chief Justice of High Court of Sindh ordered suspension of work in memory of an ex-judge and two senior most lawyers of the city including Abdul Hafeez Lakho, a former president of Sindh High Court Bar Association.
