KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Peshawar has seized 6.5KG of heroin valuing Rs4.0 million that had arrived from Afghanistan.
On the basis of a specific information received by the Director Intelligence and Investigation (Customs)-FBR, Peshawar to the effect that an attempt would be made to smuggle a huge quantity of heroin powder from tribal area to down country via motorway, a team headed and comprising of Khawaja Muhammad Iqbal, Senior Intelligence Officer, along with Class-IV staff was constituted which held a secret “naka bandi” near Rashakai Interchange Motorway, Nowshera. A suspected Honda Civic Motor Car bearing Registration No.IDG-5913 was spotted coming from Peshawar side. It was signaled to stop but the driver, ignoring the signal, sped away which was chased. The driver of the car abandoned his vehicle on the Motorway and made good his escape in the nearby fields.
Cursory search of the car led to detection of heroin concealed behind the back seat of the car. The car was then brought to the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (Customs)-FBR, Peshawar where thorough search, in the presence of officers, led to the recovery of 6.5 Kgs Heroin Powder (gross) which was seized along with the Motor Car.
An FIR has duly been lodged against the unknown accused. Further investigation is underway.
Customs I&I Peshawar also seized 60KG of Opium and 9.0 KG of high quality Charas valuing Rs2.0 million during this week.
In its ongoing campaign against smuggling in respect of narcotics and drugs, Customs has full assistance of sensitive agencies and law enforcement outfits.
FBR is proactive against smuggling particularly narcotics which come into the country from Afghanistan and the money made from this dirty business is used for funding terrorists and anti-social elements.
Sources said authorities have planned a mega crackdown against drugs and liquor smuggling. Recently, a diplomatic liquor consignment was seized while Maritime Security Agency also seized a huge cache of liquor.
