QUETTA: Pakistan Customs enforcement officers detained 40 vehicles at Rakshan division on Saturday evening, containing rice bound for export to Central Asia and Iran. The operation followed credible information passed through Collector Enforcement Umar Shafiq and led by Deputy Collector Mustafa Zamir.

Detailed examinations of three consignments at the Noshki, Dalbandin, and Nokundi forwarding and examination units revealed significant discrepancies. The declared item description of “Irri rice 25% broken” was found to actually be “1121 Basmati rice.” Furthermore, each consignment’s weight was under-declared compared to the actual weight of the vehicles.

The clearing agent admitted in writing that the entire consignment, covered by two transport notes issued by NLC Dry Port Quetta on Feb. 4 and Feb. 6, contained 1121 Basmati rice with an under-declaration of 960 metric tons.

The NLC Dry Port Quetta has been requested to reassess the export goods declaration forms as per the actual description and weight. The Appraisement Collectorate Quetta informed that $480,000 has been realized to the national exchequer as export proceeds for the excess weight.

Customs officials Jameel Baloch and Kaleemullah have performed joint operations, facilitating exports and addressing several cases, particularly regarding hydrocarbon solvent values.
