Pakistani Customs have successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle marijuana into the country through the International Mail Office (IMO) at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. Following an alert from Collector JIAP Mr. Adeem Khan, ADC Airport Mr. Muhammad Faysal Khan increased vigilance at the IMO, leading to the discovery.

On October 19, 2024, Customs officers, including AC Sharjeel Wassan and staff, monitored EMS import parcels from Thailand. At around 11 am, a suspicious parcel booked by Tan from Bangkok, in the name of Mrs. Mirza Junaid of DHA Karachi, was intercepted. Concealed in boxes labeled as food items and candies, the parcel contained 3.8 kilograms of marijuana, valued at approximately 15 million PKR.

Initial chemical tests confirmed the substance was marijuana. The driver of the vehicle carrying the parcel had fled the scene before the discovery. The narcotics were seized, and an FIR is being lodged to dismantle the smuggling network. This seizure is part of a larger effort, with JIAP Customs confiscating over 35 million PKR worth of narcotics in the past three days.
