Karachi Customs Enforcement, led by Collector Mr. Basit Maqsood Abbasi, has successfully conducted a major operation against smuggled goods. The operation, which took place in the early hours of June 12, 2024, at Gadap Town, Karachi, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of banned pharmaceuticals.
Acting on credible intelligence, the team comprising Additional Collector Dawood Pirzado, Deputy Collector Raza Naqvi, and Preventive Officers Saqlain Chadhar and Zubair Ranjha, orchestrated a well-timed raid that led to the recovery of 4,700 Boostin Injections. These injections, prohibited by the Supreme Court due to their harmful effects on cattle and milk quality, have a significant black market value estimated at approximately Rs. 16 million.
The successful operation also saw the arrest of two individuals linked to the smuggling ring. An FIR is currently being processed, and the suspects are set to face legal proceedings in the Customs Court.
This event marks a milestone in the Government of Pakistan’s ongoing campaign against the smuggling of goods. The initiative has shown commendable results, with previously smuggled items now entering the country through legal channels. Notably, the import of cloth, which was once predominantly smuggled, has seen a shift towards legal importation, contributing to the government’s revenue and underscoring the effectiveness of the anti-smuggling measures.
The increase in the price of Boostin injections post-ban has highlighted the demand for such products in the black market. However, the government’s steadfast policy and the diligent efforts of the Customs Enforcement are making significant strides in curbing these illegal activities, promoting legal trade, and safeguarding the nation’s economic interests.
