KARACHI: Re-sampling and re-test of a consignment for ascertaining the level of Aflatoxin was ordered by the Custom Appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) in a constitution petition filed by one Muhammad Rizwan.

The petitioner impugned a lab test carried out in Pakistan by laboratory of Plant Protection Department. The counsel for petitioner submitted that percentage of Aflatoxin determined by said laboratory is contrary to lab test carried out by the country of origin. He further contended that no proper sampling was carried out by the respondent department. He relied on an order passed in another petition CP-D 5465 of 2023 and requested a similar treatment.

The bench after hearing the contesting sides ordered fresh sampling in presence of the petitioner and respondents and samples to be sent to Quality Control Center (QCC) of PSQA Lahore for re-test after which report shall be submitted to the High Court in a sealed envelope.

The bench further ordered that this exercise shall be conducted at the expense of Petitioner while putting off further hearing till 30.4.2024.
