QUETTA: The Customs Enforcement Khuzdar team, led by Assistant Collector Bakhtiar Memon, seized two vehicles carrying smuggled goods worth Rs. 430.6 million at the Khurkhera check post on Monday.
The team acted on the information provided by Collector Saleem Memon abd Additional Collector Sajid Ali Baloch, who had received a tip-off about the movement of smuggled goods from the border areas.
The smuggled goods were concealed in 40 feet containers, which were intercepted by the customs officials with the assistance of the local police.
The goods included laptops, various injections, electronic goods, cosmetics, home appliances, auto parts, plastic shoppers, paper rolls, and monosodium glutamate (MSG), a flavor enhancer commonly used in Chinese cuisine.
The smuggled goods were being transported to Karachi, where they would have been sold in the local markets.
The customs officials registered a first information report (FIR) against the smugglers and initiated further investigation to trace the network behind the illegal trade.
The seizure is part of the ongoing crackdown against smuggling, which is causing huge losses to the national exchequer and the local industry. The Customs Enforcement Khuzdar has been conducting frequent raids and operations to curb the menace of smuggling in the region.
