KARACHI: A custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh has allowed an application filed by Directorate of Intelligence & Investigations, Pakistan Customs seeking release of amount lying with the Nazir of the court.
The bench was hearing the petition CP-D 1009 of 2021 filed by Al-Karam Paper Mills (Pvt) Limite, Lahore. Khalid Rajpar advocate appearing for the applicant Director General, I&I sought orders for release of sums furnished by the petitioner along with interest accrued thereon which in essence were evaded amounts of duty, taxes, fine and penalty in respect of a consignment imported by the petitioner company, approximately Rupees 17,211,399.
The bench noted that no one on behalf of petitioner company was in attendance. Khalid Rajpar then pointed out that an Order in Original has been passed against the petitioner on 6-9-2021 ordering the petitioner to pay the evaded amount and the petitioner has not challenged the said ONO.
The bench allowed the application observing that it find no impediment in allowing the same. Resultantly the release of sum was ordered after due verification and identification.
