KARACHI: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi has seized a Land Cruiser V8 and arrested an aide of notorious smuggler Asif Sandlani.
A short information was received at Hamdard Check Post regarding movement of Asif Sandlani in a non-duty paid vehicle along with escort vehicles. Subsequently, the suspected Land Cruiser was spoted along with two escort cars. Customs staff signaled the vehicles to stop but they sped away towards Katcha area in the jurisdiction of Surjani Police Station.
ASO staff pursued the accused and an exchange of fire occurred, and the smugglers escaped leaving the Land Cruiser behind. ASO has seized the vehicle and arrested one person.
One civilian was injured seriously by the firing of smugglers. Customs staff removed him to hospital.
Collector Preventive Saquif Saeed has appreciated the efforts of ASO staff, and advised the team of take stern security measures as the anti-smuggling drive has pained a target on their backs.
ASO Preventive Karachi has been very efficient against the smuggling and conducted several cases on daily basis with the assistance of law enforcement agencies.
